Solana's Agave 4.2 Upgrade Set to Boost Performance and Efficiency
Solana's Agave 4.2 upgrade is set to significantly improve the network's performance and efficiency in 2026.
The major release, recommended for broader mainnet adoption in August, brings several key upgrades including a reduction in slot times from 400 milliseconds to 200 milliseconds, an increase in maximum transaction size from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes, and a planned 90% reduction in rent costs.
The upgrade also lays the groundwork for the upcoming Alpenglow consensus overhaul, which is expected in Agave 4.3, currently targeted for October 2026.
