Solana's Alpenglow Upgrade Activates September 28: Faster Transactions and Higher Resilience

Solana's Alpenglow upgrade is scheduled to begin feature activation on mainnet on September 28, 2026. This major network upgrade introduces a new voting mechanism that speeds up transaction finality to about 150 milliseconds and increases network resilience by raising the fault tolerance threshold to 40 percent stake dropout.

Most SOL holders do not need to take action unless they self-delegate their stake, in which case they should ensure their validator upgrades by September 21 to avoid yield loss. The upgrade also changes validator costs and staking dynamics but does not affect SOL balances or require token swaps.
