Solana's Ambitious Alpenglow Upgrade Clears First Hurdle with Over 300 Bug Bounty Submissions
Solana's ambitious Alpenglow upgrade has cleared its first hurdle, having passed a rigorous two-week stress test that attracted over 300 submissions from security researchers worldwide. The competition, organized by Anza and sponsored by Solana, aimed to identify vulnerabilities in critical components of the Agave validator codebase.
The bug bounty was open for two weeks, from August 5 to August 19, with a non-refundable submission fee of 0.5 SOL per report. The reward pool totaled up to 50,000 SOL, which will be distributed based on the severity of the bugs identified.
Alpenglow is a major overhaul of Solana's consensus mechanism, designed to reduce transaction finality times from 12.8 seconds to between 100 and 150 milliseconds. The upgrade had been excluded from prior bug bounty programs, making this competition its first real exposure to adversarial security review at scale.
