Solana's DeFi Dominance Shattered by Plummeting Gas Fees
Solana's decentralized finance (DeFi) landscape has experienced a significant shift. Raydium, a leading decentralized exchange (DEX), has taken a whopping 60% market share. This comes as overall DeFi activity cools off and meme coins start fleeing towards Tron.
According to DeFiLlama data, total value locked across major blockchains sits at $77 billion. Ethereum still leads the pack, but Solana's making waves with its base layer scalability giving it an edge over Ethereum and its layer-2 solutions.
Raydium's user base is exploding, attracting over 200,000 active users daily. This is a stark contrast to other competing protocols. Solana's daily active addresses have hit an all-time high, with the blockchain boasting 5.5 million daily active users on average.
However, despite the user base growth, gas fees are tanking. Fee revenue hit a six-month low of $414,000 as of September 7, down from the $5 million seen on March 18. This is largely due to Pump.fun, a popular meme coin launchpad, losing steam with its fees nosediving by over 80% since late July.
But don't count out meme coin enthusiasts just yet, they're just moving house. Tron, another speedy blockchain, is seeing a surge in activity, with its new launchpad, SunPump, picking up where Pump.fun left off.
