Solana's Enterprise Platform Attracts Major Financial Institutions with Tokenized Asset Support
The Solana Foundation has launched the Solana Developer Platform (SDP), a new enterprise platform designed for banks and financial institutions to build products on the Solana blockchain. The SDP brings together infrastructure from over 20 technology partners into a single API-driven interface, structured around three modules: tokenized real-world assets, fiat and stablecoin payments, and atomic swaps and on-chain forex.
The platform has attracted early users including Mastercard, Worldpay, and Western Union, who are using it for various purposes such as enabling stablecoin settlement, merchant payments and settlement, and cross-border payment capabilities. Mastercard's executive vice president of blockchain and digital assets, Raj Dhamodharan, said the next phase of digital asset innovation will be defined by practical use cases that connect with existing financial systems.
The SDP enters a competitive market, with rivals including Consensys' Infura and its Linea layer-2, Coinbase's Base platform, and Ripple's XRP Ledger. The real-world asset tokenization market currently stands at $328 billion, with Ethereum holding more than half of that total and Solana accounting for 6.3%.
