Solana's First Governance Test: A Narrow Win for Disinflation
Solana's governance system has undergone its first major test with the approval of SGP-0002, a proposal to double the annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%. The vote passed with 176.29 million SOL For and 66.19 million SOL Against, but the margin depends on how one looks at it.
According to Validator Info, the support was about 67.0% of the displayed turnout, but if we exclude Abstain from the approval denominator, the share of decisive stake supporting SGP-0002 is around 72.7%. This narrow margin has raised questions about the legitimacy and effectiveness of Solana's governance system.
The proposal, backed by a group of validators including Kraken and Galaxy, aims to reduce SOL issuance and accelerate the network's path toward lower inflation. However, implementation still depends on several factors, including the passage of SIMD-0550 and client coordination.
