Solana's Futures Volume Surges Amid Price Volatility Concerns
Solana's futures volume has more than doubled on several major exchanges in just one day, sparking concerns about potential price volatility. Binance reported a 24-hour SOL futures volume of approximately $890 million, up by 144.8%. Bybit and OKX saw their volumes rise by 108.6% and 146.1%, respectively.
Despite the surge in trading activity, Solana's price has remained relatively flat at around $75.30. The positioning data suggests a strong long bias, with Binance reporting a ratio of 2.43 and OKX at 2.42. This could make the cryptocurrency more vulnerable to liquidation if it loses support.
The chart shows Solana trading below its intermediate moving average at around $78.10, indicating a weak overall structure. The long-term moving average is still significantly higher at $89.26. If selling increases, losing the current support level of $74-$75 could lead to another move towards $70-$72.
The volume expansion could be beneficial if buyers regain control and push Solana's price above $78-$80. However, crowded long positioning and increased futures activity create asymmetric risk, making it more likely that some new positions will be forced out of the market by a retrace.
