Solana's Mainnet Reaches 100M CU Blocks, Capacity Boosts by 66%
Solana's mainnet has reached a significant milestone with the launch of 100 million CU blocks. This upgrade, SIMD-0286, increases the block compute units limit from 60M to 100M, resulting in a capacity boost of 66%. According to Solana, about one out of every nine blocks ran near full capacity during peak on-chain activity periods over the past year.
This added capacity provides the network with additional space, but it's just the first step. Further upgrades are planned, including Alpenglow and reducing slot times to 200ms.
