Solana's On-Chain Activity Surges Amid Token Issuance Slowdown
Solana's on-chain activity has surged significantly over the past three months, with fee revenue increasing by more than 80% and non-vote transaction counts reaching an all-time high. This surge in activity coincided with the passage of a landmark governance proposal that will slow the issuance of new SOL tokens.
The proposal, known as 'Double Disinflation,' doubles the annual inflation reduction rate from 15% to 30%, which is expected to cut new SOL issuance by approximately 18.9 million tokens over the next six years. This change has significant implications for staking rewards and long-term supply dynamics.
The proposal passed with just over 67% support, narrowly clearing the 66.67% threshold required for approval. The surge in on-chain activity is a clear sign that demand for block space is intensifying, as evidenced by the increase in jito tips, which climbed to a daily average of 2,073 SOL over the past week.
