Solana's Speed vs Reliability Conundrum
Solana's focus on speed and scalability has made it an attractive option for consumer-facing blockchain apps, but its reliability under heavy demand remains a concern. According to analyst Kamilah Stevenson, Solana's ability to process high volumes of transactions quickly and cheaply is a key strength, making it ideal for trading platforms and NFT marketplaces. However, this focus on speed has led to past network outages and slowdowns during periods of high usage, posing reliability risks.
Stevenson advises investors to evaluate crypto projects based on their intended use cases rather than price speculation alone, noting Solana's value lies in its specialization for speed and scale. The network's long-term success depends on improving reliability while maintaining performance. Recent incidents have highlighted the vulnerability of the network, with a routing failure causing about 28.83% of staked SOL to go offline, dangerously close to the threshold that would stop transaction finality.
