Solana's Transaction Capacity Set to Triple in September Upgrade

Solana is set to significantly boost its transaction capacity on September 9th, narrowing the gap with Ethereum. The network's new TransactionV1 format will increase the per-transaction processing limit to 4,096 bytes from the current 1,232 bytes. This change aims to reduce processing costs and make Solana more competitive.

The expansion is part of the upcoming AlpenGlow upgrade, which also includes a shift from TowerBFT to Voter consensus mechanism and moves vote processing off-chain. The update will cut finality time to around 150 milliseconds from the current 12.8 seconds.
