Solana's Upgrade Falls Flat as SOL Struggles Below Crucial Support

Solana's mainnet capacity upgrade to 100 million compute units (CU) has been rolled out, but the token remains range-bound around $72, $74. The upgrade boosts throughput without slowing down block time, which remains at approximately 400 milliseconds.

The increased capacity is expected to primarily benefit parallel execution rather than allowing a few high-traffic accounts to dominate blockspace. This comes as on-chain activity shifts in favor of meme coin trading on Solana's decentralized exchanges (DEXs), with the share of spot DEX volume rising to 29% for the week of July 20-26.

The market remains focused on the near-term technical battle around $73.75, with analysts warning that a daily close below this level could trigger additional selling pressure and open the door to a slide toward the $60 area.
