Solana's V1 Upgrade Brings Scalability Boost to Testnet
Solana's testnet has seen the first transactions using its new V1 upgrade, which aims to simplify complex operations by allowing them to be processed in a single atomic transaction. This change increases the maximum size of a Solana serialized transaction from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes, enabling features like zero-knowledge proofs and large multisig transactions that were previously unachievable.
The V1 upgrade is part of Solana's effort to improve its scalability and usability for decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. According to Galaxy, the platform's activity in Q2 2026 saw increasing use of stablecoins, tokenized equities, and real-world assets, with a focus on using assets in lending, collateralization, margin, and yield instead of just issuance or trading.
The upgrade is opt-in, so Legacy and V0 transactions will continue to work. However, RPC providers have been obliged to update to Agave v4.2.2 or v4.3.0-beta.3, with a week left before the mainnet launch on September 9.
