Solar-Powered Bitcoin Mining Brews Up Savings at NSW Brewery
A brewery on Australia's Central Coast is generating an extra income stream by harnessing its rooftop solar power for cryptocurrency mining, while also reducing its energy costs.
Hawkesbury Brewing Co in Lisarow has installed 16 Bitcoin mining computers that operate only when the brewery generates more electricity than it needs. This means the equipment runs without additional operating costs and produces monthly earnings of around $2,000, which nearly offsets the site's power bills.
The brewery captures the heat produced by the computers using a non-conductive liquid, transferring the energy into its water system to provide hot water for brewing and bottle washing. This supports production of approximately 100,000 litres of beer every month.
