Solo Miner Defies Odds to Win $200K Reward in Rare Bitcoin Mining Feat

A solo Bitcoin miner recently defied incredibly long odds to solve block 960,804 and earn a reward of approximately $200,000.

Bitcoin mining is the process of validating transactions on the blockchain network so that new blocks are added. The miner who solves the cryptographic puzzle is rewarded with Bitcoin.

The current Bitcoin mining reward is 3.125 BTC per block plus transaction fees. In this case, the block contained 4,243 transactions and paid 3.1568 Bitcoin to the miner, which consisted of 3.125 BTC in reward and 0.032 BTC in fees.

The process of Bitcoin mining pits rigs against each other to win rewards, making it very difficult for a solo miner to solve a cryptographic puzzle and win a reward.
