A solo Bitcoin miner recently struck gold by finding a block and earning a reward of 3.157 BTC, worth around $200,000 at the time.

This remarkable achievement occurred on August 3, when the miner, using a significant amount of computing power estimated to be around 100 PH, generated a block that included 4,243 transactions.

The mining operation was facilitated through CKPool, a service that allows individual miners to compete with large companies by connecting their equipment and sharing rewards. The pool took a 2% fee from the reward, leaving the miner with approximately $196,000.

This case highlights the varying odds of success in solo mining, which depend on the scale of hashrate used. The miner's success is particularly notable given that they were able to achieve this feat despite the market being dominated by large companies.
