Solomon Backs Clarity Act as Wall Street Rift Emerges
Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon has publicly expressed support for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, also known as the CLARITY Act. This move is significant because it breaks with the traditionally unified opposition among globally systemic bank executives to a statutory crypto market structure framework.
In an interview with Politico, Solomon stated that he is 'very supportive of moving the Clarity Act forward,' acknowledging that the legislation is not perfect but seeing its core contribution as establishing a level playing field for digital-asset markets. This stance puts him at odds with JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, who has been vocal in his opposition to the bill.
Dimon's concerns were echoed by a coalition of bank trade groups, which warned that the latest draft still poses risks to local lending through its treatment of crypto rewards programs. Senate Democrats have also expressed their reservations about the bill, citing issues with ethics and consumer protection.
