Song Slams Altcoins as Scams, Argues Bitcoin's Value Proposition is Misunderstood

Veteran Bitcoin educator Jimmy Song has made some strong statements about the altcoin market, describing it as 'scams' and arguing that no amount of technical innovation can overcome Bitcoin's network effect and decade-long security hardening.

Song made these comments at BTC Prague in June 2026, during an interview flagged by WuBlockchain. He emphasized that many investors fail to notice how often alternative blockchains suffer hacks and instability, simply because the asset price hasn't yet reflected the damage.

Song's critique isn't about code output or technical innovation, but rather about the economic moat built by a network that has absorbed hundreds of billions in value over a decade. He argues that Bitcoin's liquidity, custody infrastructure, and regulatory clarity all orbit around it first, making it harder for newer chains to gain traction.

Song's framing suggests that the market is mispricing cumulative security risk, and that even major altcoin rallies can't break Bitcoin's gravitational pull. He also notes that institutional money is favoring proven security layers like Ethereum and Bitcoin over newer challengers, which are often focused on innovation rather than security.

The interview highlights a distinction between viewing Bitcoin as a technology platform or as money, with Song arguing that the latter is the more relevant perspective for portfolio construction. He suggests that crypto's largest asset is akin to gold in the 1970s, where its value proposition is based on its ability to resist seizure, debasement, and political pressure over time.
