South Florida Man Pleads Guilty to $245M Crypto Theft Scheme
A South Florida man has pleaded guilty to participating in a $245 million cryptocurrency theft scheme. Malone Lam, a 22-year-old Singapore citizen and Miami resident, admitted to one count of RICO conspiracy. The operation was international in scope, with members based in California, Connecticut, New York, Florida, and abroad.
Lam allegedly organized the group's activities, identifying victims and coordinating the roles of other conspirators. The scheme targeted cryptocurrency holders through deception, online gaming, and sometimes even home break-ins. The stolen funds were used to fund a lavish lifestyle, including luxury watches worth over $500,000 and exotic cars valued at up to $3.8 million.
The group also spent heavily on private jets, luxury clothing, handbags, and rental homes in Los Angeles, the Hamptons, and Miami. In one instance, they allegedly spent as much as $500,000 on nightclub services in a single evening. Lam was arrested at his rental home in Miami on September 18, 2025.
