South Korea Cracks Down on Unregulated Crypto Firms
South Korean lawmakers are pushing to expand the powers of the country's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) to monitor and regulate unregistered cryptocurrency firms.
The proposed changes aim to give the FIU more authority to track and investigate suspicious transactions related to cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin. This move is part of a broader effort to strengthen anti-money laundering measures in South Korea.
The country's lawmakers believe that expanding the FIU's powers will help prevent illicit activities, including money laundering and terrorist financing, which are often linked to cryptocurrencies.
