South Korea Leads Global Retail Investment Interest Surge

Share

South Korea has taken the top spot in a recent study on retail investment interest across over 45 countries. Coin Insider analyzed Google Trends data from 2025 and 2026 to compare online searches for stocks and cryptocurrencies, finding that South Korean interest rose by 95.7% year-over-year. The country's stock market capitalization stands at 147.2% of its GDP, with gross savings equaling 35.6% of the economy.

Argentina placed fourth in the study, with a 50% increase in searches related to stocks and crypto over the past year. Bangladesh completed the top five, with a 49% rise in interest during the same period. Both countries have limited local markets and high inflation rates, which may be driving residents to seek alternative investments.

The researchers noted that access to foreign markets is not automatic and is influenced by various factors such as local financial rules, capital controls, identity checks, tax requirements, and platform services offered.
