South Korea Targets 2027 for Tokenized Securities Market Launch
South Korea's government has outlined plans to launch a tokenized securities market by February 2027, marking a significant step towards integrating blockchain technology into the country's capital markets.
The Financial Services Commission (FSC) announced on September 4 that privately placed money market funds and corporate bonds will be eligible for tokenization for institutional investors in the first phase of the rollout.
Other initial assets include unlisted stocks, which will be tokenized through trust structures, and publicly offered fractional investment securities. The government aims to connect the new infrastructure with the Korea Securities Depository's tokenized securities system, allowing for the issuance and trading of securities through distributed ledger technology while maintaining links with the existing financial market system.
