South Korea Unveils Digital-Finance Program for 3,500 Companies and Tokenized Securities
South Korea has launched a three-part digital-finance program that includes allowing about 3,500 companies to access crypto accounts. This move is part of the Financial Services Commission's (FSC) roadmap, which was released in February 2025.
The program also involves legal recognition for tokenized securities, with tokenized-securities laws passing in January and taking effect on February 4, 2027. Additionally, deposit-token trials involving nine banks are underway as part of Project Hangang Phase II.
According to Andrew Park, CEO of FACTBLOCK and organizer of the Korea Blockchain Week, South Korea's crypto market is shifting away from retail trading towards a focus on custody, tokenization, stablecoins, settlement systems, and regulatory compliance.
