South Korean Delio CEO Jeong Sang-ho has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in a landmark crypto fraud case. The ruling marks one of the first major convictions of a crypto platform executive since South Korea implemented its Virtual Asset User Protection Act in 2024.

The court found that Jeong had consistently shifted responsibility to other companies and attempted to evade accountability, causing substantial financial harm to users and prompting calls for stricter regulation in the emerging digital asset sector.

The Delio collapse in June 2023 left thousands of investors unable to access their funds, with the halt coming amid a broader industry downturn and regulatory scrutiny following the collapse of Terraform Labs.

The verdict sends a clear signal that deceptive practices and mismanagement of user funds will face severe consequences, reinforcing the importance of transparency and accountability for crypto firms operating in South Korea.
