South Korean Crypto Market Volumes Soar Amid Stock Plunge
The South Korean crypto market has seen significant volumes recently as the stock market there plummeted nearly 18%. The sudden drop in stocks, however, hasn't deterred the growth of cryptocurrency trading. In fact, it appears to have had the opposite effect.
Tether's USDT stablecoin has been particularly active, with an outflow of $500 million recorded on Binance. This coincided with Bitcoin climbing back up to $65,000. The movement highlights the continued importance of stablecoins in cryptocurrency trading.
Tether itself reported a net operating profit of $1.5 billion for Q2, driven by U.S. Treasuries and repo. Its assets reached an impressive $187.75 billion during this period. The company's reserve strength has been a key factor in the growth of its stablecoin.
On a separate note, Solana has expanded its stablecoin mix beyond USDT and USDC. The network now boasts over $4.81 billion in liquidity from alternative stablecoins, surpassing its historical dependence on these two assets.
