South Korean Cryptocurrency Market Sees Surge as Investors Flock Back
The cryptocurrency market in South Korea has seen a significant surge in recent days. The country's largest exchange, Upbit, reported a 273% increase in 24-hour trading volume to $1.84 billion, with XRP being the most actively traded asset at $418.9 million.
The Bithumb exchange also saw an 8-fold increase in its 24-hour trading volume to around $935 million, with XRP again leading the charge.
This surge comes after a period of decline for the cryptocurrency market in South Korea, which had been overshadowed by the country's stock market's strong performance. The KOSPI index reached historic highs due to high demand for semiconductors and AI-related memory chips from companies like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
However, according to Min Jung of Presto Research, it's still early to talk about a significant shift in market capitalization: 'It's too soon to say whether this is a rotation or not. If the rally continues, we would expect a larger influx of funds into the cryptocurrency market.'
