South Korea's People Power Party Set to Finalize Crypto Tax Stance
The People Power Party in South Korea has announced plans to discuss and finalize its stance on cryptocurrency taxation at an upcoming workshop scheduled for August 27. The party's leader, Jang Dong-hyuk, stated that they will present their position on virtual-asset taxation after the workshop.
The government has set a deadline of January 1, 2027, to begin taxing income from digital assets, but the People Power Party has expressed opposition to this plan. They have suggested abolishing or delaying the tax implementation.
Jang Dong-hyuk emphasized that the party's stance on digital-asset policies has not been clearly communicated, and they aim to rectify this at the workshop. He also mentioned that the appointment of Rep. Lim Yi-ja as chair of the party's policy committee will accelerate discussions on digital-asset taxation and other youth-related issues.
The Aug. 27 workshop is expected to cover in-depth discussions on related matters, including the party's position on virtual-asset taxation.
