South Korea's STO Lagging Behind Global Tokenized Securities Boom
The global market for tokenized stocks and bonds has surged to $2.51 billion as of August 4, up 273% from $673 million at the start of the year.
This growth reflects a broader trend towards digitizing traditional financial assets on distributed ledgers, driven by promises of increased liquidity, fractional ownership, and 24/7 trading capabilities.
However, South Korea is lagging behind in this development, with no legislative progress on security token offerings (STOs) for standard securities. The country's current efforts focus only on non-standard assets like real estate and art, leaving a significant gap in its regulatory framework.
