SpaceX's Bitcoin Holdings: Less Than Meets the Eye
The notion that SpaceX is a proxy for Bitcoin investment has been a popular narrative in crypto circles. However, recent analysis suggests this claim may be overstated. With a market capitalization of roughly $1.56 trillion and a Bitcoin position worth approximately $1.18 billion, the company's Bitcoin holdings amount to just 0.0757% or eight basis points of its total value.
This mathematically insignificant holding has been repeatedly touted as a significant factor in the company's stock price movements. However, when examined alongside other companies with similar large-scale investments in Bitcoin, such as Tesla, it becomes clear that SpaceX's exposure is actually quite low.
The real story of SpaceX and crypto lies elsewhere. The company's involvement in the shadow market, where crypto-native venues traded SpaceX before its IPO, is a far more significant development. These platforms allowed retail investors to access the IPO through tokenized versions of the stock, creating a new infrastructure for global investment.
