Spam Floods Blockchains: Over 2.7 Billion Suspected Spam Transfers in Six Months
Spam transfers have become a significant issue on various blockchains, with some networks experiencing up to 30% of their total transactions being spam. According to TRM Labs, between January and August 2026, over 2.7 billion suspected spam transfers crossed major chains like TRON, Ethereum, BSC, and Polygon.
TRON was found to be the most affected, with 30% of its total transfers being potential dust. This is attributed to the low-fee structure of the network, making it an attractive target for spammers. On Solana, a further 2.5 billion dust transfers were recorded in Q1 2026 alone.
The scale and type of spamming vary depending on the blockchain's economics and architecture. Low-fee chains like TRON enable high-volume dusting, while higher-fee chains favor more targeted counterfeit token spoofing. Solana's mint-authority validation makes counterfeit token spoofing impractical at scale.
