Springfield Police Warn of Bitcoin Scam Targeting Local Residents

The Springfield Police Department in Massachusetts is warning residents about a Bitcoin scam that has already swindled nearly $1 million from local victims. The scammers have been posing as police officers, claiming there's an active warrant for the victim's arrest or that a loved one is in jail and needs bail money.

According to Ryan Walsh, public information officer for the Springfield Police Department, 'The police, or the sheriffs, or the courts will never call you and ask you for money.' He emphasized that legitimate law enforcement and judicial agencies do not conduct financial business in this manner.

The scammers instruct victims to deposit funds into a cryptocurrency or Bitcoin machine. Once the transaction is processed, the money is permanently lost.
