Square Embeds Bitcoin Payments into Trusted Infrastructure for Millions of US Small Businesses
Block's parent company, Square, has started automatically activating Bitcoin payment acceptance for millions of eligible U.S. small businesses.
This move embeds Bitcoin acceptance into payment infrastructure already trusted by these businesses, handling all crypto conversion in the background and keeping the process invisible to both merchants and customers.
The feature works within the same Square systems that merchants already use for sales, inventory, and payroll, with all Bitcoin transactions instantly converted to USD at the point of checkout.
Square has waived processing fees on these transactions through the end of 2026, and settlement is near-instant under the current rollout.
The U.S. sellers make up 78% of Square's total user base, according to the company's most recent investor presentation.
