Stablecoin Adoption Driven by Trust and Familiarity
KuCoin's Australian Managing Director James Pinch spoke at Crypto Winter 2026 about the future of agentic commerce. He argued that trust and familiarity will shape the direction of online payments, particularly with stablecoins. One area where agent-initiated stablecoin payments are already being used is in machines buying inputs from other machines at high frequency.
Pinch highlighted three essential functions that exchanges must fulfill: holding assets, moving value between on-chain dollars and real-world currencies, and verifying wallet ownership. KuCoin's Australian entity is registered with AUSTRAC and holds an AFSL license, and the company believes Australia's Digital Assets Framework will formalize its compliance efforts.
When discussing how people will adopt stablecoin payments, Pinch emphasized that the rail used for transactions is less important than the user experience. He pointed to KuCard, which enables customers to hold USDC on their phone and make payments using familiar card rails.
