Stablecoin Market Contraction Masks Record-Breaking Transaction Volume
The stablecoin market experienced its largest monthly contraction since the Terra-Luna collapse in 2022, with a $7.7 billion decline in June 2026.
This drop in supply was accompanied by a record-breaking transaction volume of $1.79 trillion, up 63% from May and 125% above the same month last year.
The divergence between supply contraction and on-chain activity is striking, with USDC processing more than double the transfers of USDT despite having less than half of Tether's circulating supply.
This suggests that USDC tokens are being used intensively in payments, institutional transfers, or DeFi activity, rather than passive holding.
