Stablecoin Market Reaches $300 Billion as Uncertainty Lingers
The market capitalization of stablecoins has reached nearly $300 billion at the end of 2025, marking significant growth over the past few years. However, this expansion comes with heightened attention from regulators and potential issuers, leaving the future of stablecoins uncertain.
According to ING THINK's economic and financial analysis, part of the path to becoming a broadly adopted instrument depends on the presence of a regulatory framework and interoperability with existing payment systems. However, estimating the future growth of stablecoins is difficult, as it requires predicting their relative attractiveness compared with alternative payment systems such as central bank digital currencies and tokenized deposits in a rapidly evolving market.
The sector's rapid development over the past years suggests that could change, with forecasts indicating that the new digital currency could grow exponentially, reaching anywhere between $900 billion and $4.2 trillion by 2030.
