Stablecoin Regulatory Uncertainty Slows International Trade, WTO Warns
The World Trade Organization (WTO) has stated that the lack of clear regulations on stablecoins is hindering international trade. According to Juan Marchetti, the issue lies not with technology itself but with inadequate regulatory frameworks.
Stablecoins currently account for three percent of all cross-border payments, with assets like USDT ($1.00 · Live) seeing increased adoption. The volume of stablecoin-based cross-border payments has surged 35 times between 2020 and the midpoint of 2024.
