Stablecoin Rotation Lifts SoFi and Coinbase Shares
SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ: SOFI) stock surged 3% to $18.83 on Tuesday, driven by stablecoin momentum that is lifting fintech shares. This rotation is distinct from a broader technology rally, as evidenced by the ARK Blockchain and Fintech Innovation ETF (CBOE: ARKF), which outpaced the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ: QQQ) with a 2% gain.
The SoFiUSD stablecoin, issued by SoFi Technologies in Q2 2026, has had $300 million in circulation. This tangible stablecoin footprint is contributing to the market's valuation of SoFi shares. In contrast, Coinbase Global (NASDAQ: COIN) competes through USDC, with average balances reaching a record $20 billion in Q2 2026.
Affirm Holdings (NASDAQ: AFRM), which carries no crypto rail, barely moved on Tuesday, up just 0.6% to $77.36. Meanwhile, Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD) and PayPal Holdings (NASDAQ: PYPL) participated in the rotation, albeit with varying intensity.
