Stablecoin transfer volumes have reached record highs, with $41.7 trillion settled so far in 2026.

According to a Coinmetrics report, USDC and USDT on-chain transfer volumes have repeatedly hit new highs, but closer analysis reveals that over 90% of transaction volume comes from flash loans and market maker arbitrage rather than user payments.

USDC's high turnover is driven by flash loans and liquidity pool activity, with a staggering $500 billion in flash loan volume recorded on one day in June. In contrast, USDT's dominance stems from its first-mover advantage and use in offshore and emerging markets.

Circle's USDC has settled $32 trillion in transfer volume, capturing 77% of the stablecoin market, while Tether's USDT has settled $8 trillion (19%). Although USDC remains ahead, the gap has narrowed somewhat, with USDC's daily transfer volume now falling below $100 billion.
