Stablecoins Dominate Argentina's Peso Crypto Trading Volume
Argentina's cryptocurrency market is dominated by stablecoins, which account for 94% of peso-denominated trading volume. According to an a16z Crypto analysis using market data from Artemis, this trend persists even as inflation has eased and foreign-exchange restrictions have been relaxed.
The country's experience with digital dollars extends beyond serving as a response to severe inflation or restricted access to foreign currency, the report suggests. Stablecoins remain dominant despite easier dollar access and declining inflation rates.
Argentina's central bank removed individual foreign-currency purchase limits in April 2025, which helped narrow the differences between official and parallel exchange rates. The spread between stablecoin prices and official-market dollars has narrowed to around 4%, as of August 28, 2026.
