Stablecoins Dominate Argentina's Peso-Denominated Crypto Trading Volume
Argentina's peso-denominated cryptocurrency trading volume has seen an overwhelming majority of stablecoin activity. According to a16z Crypto analysis, stablecoins account for 94% of the country's crypto trading volume.
The data comes from market information provided by Artemis and suggests that many Argentines use cryptocurrencies primarily to obtain digital dollars rather than speculate on volatile tokens.
This trend is not surprising given Argentina's history with currency devaluations, persistent inflation, and banking restrictions. Households in the country have long saved in U.S. dollars, a practice that has been extended into digital wallets through stablecoins like USDT and USDC.
