Stablecoins Gain Traction in Asia as Users Seek Practical Applications
Bitget Wallet's APAC Lead Will Wu shares his perspective on why users are looking beyond trading in crypto adoption across Asia. According to Wu, trading is no longer the only meaningful entry point in South and Southeast Asian markets like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
The motivation for using crypto splits along economic context, with developed markets drawn in by trading and yield, while emerging markets use stablecoins as a hedge against currency instability and to access global assets. Stablecoins let people use crypto infrastructure without taking directional market risk, giving users another reason to keep using crypto even when not actively trading.
Wu emphasizes the importance of reliability in everyday finance, stating that mainstream adoption depends on solving operational problems such as onboarding, fees, user support, and product behavior in volatile markets. He believes that having builders, traders, and institutions collaborate is crucial for solving these issues.
