Stablecoins Surge as Remote Workers Flock to Crypto Payroll

Stablecoin adoption is surging as more workers choose to receive their salaries in digital dollars, according to Mercuryo's latest data.

The global payments infrastructure platform found that during the first half of 2026, USD Coin (USDC) and Tether tokens (USDt) accounted for 57% of all accepted off-ramp transactions, up from 25% a year earlier.

This growth in crypto payroll services is driven by remote workers and digital nomads who prefer the convenience and low fees of stablecoins over traditional bank transfers, which can take several business days to arrive.

Mercuryo's data also shows that stablecoin transaction volumes grew far faster than those of other cryptocurrencies, with the number of stablecoin off-ramp transactions rising 446% year on year, compared with 38% for other digital tokens.
