Stablecoins Take Center Stage in Global Payroll
The option to receive pay in stablecoins, a type of cryptocurrency pegged to stable assets such as the US dollar, can be 'life-changing' for workers, particularly in countries with unstable economies.
Nikos Theodorou, VP of Payments & Risk at Remote, notes that having access to stablecoins eases financial pressure faced by millions of workers daily. Payroll vendors like Remote, Deel, and Paystand have built infrastructure for employers to offer stablecoin pay.
Stablecoin transactions have reached $35 trillion globally, with a market cap of $322 billion, surpassing the foreign exchange reserves of 95 countries. Some employers are already on board, with Deel processing $250 million in stablecoin payouts in 2025 and over 10,000 contractors across 100-plus companies opting in.
Thierry Edde, Head of Crypto at Deel, emphasizes that offering stablecoins is a 'compensation differentiator' that matters to the talent employers are competing for. For workers in high-inflation markets, stablecoin pay is not a perk but pay protection.
