Stacks Aims to Build Home of Bitcoin-Native Finance with $4 Trillion Idle Market
The Stacks project is working on building a home for Bitcoin-native finance. The goal is to create a financial system centered around Bitcoin, where holders can engage in activities such as staking, lending, and trading without leaving their funds on another blockchain.
Currently, most of the $4 trillion in circulating Bitcoin is idle, with only a small fraction participating in on-chain financial activity. To address this, Stacks has outlined a 2026 roadmap to attract Bitcoin capital through self-custodial yield, scale infrastructure for greater activity, and expand financial applications.
The project's central question is whether it can convert its roadmap into the ecosystem where $BTC holders move from passive ownership to active financial use. To achieve this, Stacks proposes a different combination of staking, using a protocol bond that pairs locked BTC with STX worth approximately 5% of the BTC position.
