Stacks Brings Native BTC Yield to Network with September Launch
Stacks, an open-source network for building decentralized applications (dApps), is gearing up to launch Bitcoin Staking on its platform by September 13, 2026. This move will enable BTC holders to earn yield through Stacks without having to give up exposure to the underlying asset.
The native staking feature works through a token called sBTC, which represents staked Bitcoin on the Stacks layer. By using sBTC, holders can earn yield while still maintaining their ownership of BTC. As more BTC is committed to the network, demand for STX (Stacks' native cryptocurrency) staking and sBTC utility is expected to increase.
The launch of Bitcoin Staking on Stacks puts the mechanism in place, but adoption will depend on how many BTC holders choose to route yield through Stacks rather than custodial alternatives. This means that while the infrastructure is available, it's up to users to decide whether to use it.
