Standard Chartered Brings Bitcoin Trading to UAE Institutional Clients
Standard Chartered, a global bank, has introduced 'deliverable' Bitcoin and Ether spot trading for institutional clients in the UAE. This means that clients can buy or sell these cryptocurrencies for immediate delivery, rather than using derivatives to track their price.
The new service is integrated into the bank's existing electronic foreign exchange (FX) platforms, which are used by its institutional clients. This approach aims to make cryptocurrency trading feel like just another tradable asset within a dealing room.
By embedding Bitcoin and Ether execution into existing FX screens, Standard Chartered hopes to reduce operational friction for big investors. This includes approved venues, compliance checks, and how trades settle.
The bank has already launched this institutional spot service through its UK branch in July 2025. The UAE rollout appears to be a repeatable template rather than an isolated experiment.
