Standard Chartered Predicts Fivefold Surge for Sky's SKY Token by 2028
Standard Chartered Bank, a major financial institution, has released a prediction for the growth of Sky's (formerly MakerDAO) SKY token by 2028. According to their research, the bank expects the price of the SKY token to surge by approximately five times from its current value of $0.065 to $0.325.
The forecast is based on two key factors: growth in Sky's USDS stablecoin activity and a greater distribution of generated revenue to token holders. Standard Chartered's head of digital assets research, Geoffrey Kendrick, has described Sky as the 'federal bank of DeFi', highlighting its role in issuing USDS and DAI, creating governance rules, and providing funds to borrowers at wholesale interest rates.
The bank notes that borrowing capacity is a key driver of growth for Sky's scenario. The current total USDS borrowing stands at $5.9 billion, with a combined borrowing limit of $17.5 billion. Standard Chartered expects this to increase, leading to higher revenue for the platform. Additionally, Sky generates income from USDC assets held via Coinbase and legacy DAI credit vaults.
The bank also calculates that if the current pace of reserve growth is maintained, Sky's reserve buffer could reach $150 million within eight months. This would enable a larger portion of revenue to be distributed to SKY holders, potentially doubling staking rewards and token buybacks. However, Standard Chartered notes that growth in yield-bearing stablecoins remaining slower than expected is the primary risk in their model.
