Starknet Foundation Completes First Quantum-Safe Bitcoin Transaction
A team from Starknet Foundation has made history by completing the first quantum-safe Bitcoin transaction on the mainnet. The achievement was demonstrated by Damian Chen, VP of growth at the foundation, who spoke at Bitcoin Asia in Hong Kong.
The transaction used a method developed by StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy, which generates millions of signature candidates until it finds one with a specific structural property that doesn't expose vulnerable material while waiting in the mempool. This 'signature grinding' is deliberately computationally expensive and makes the transaction resistant to quantum shortcuts.
Chen touted the benefits of quantum-safe Bitcoin transactions (QSB) to institutions, stating that even if attackers have a fund's private keys, they couldn't make a fraudulent transfer. QSB introduces a new hash authorization, making it difficult for attackers to authorize a spend and move coins out of a wallet.
