StarkWare Completes First Quantum-Resistant Bitcoin Transaction on Mainnet
Rapid advancements in quantum computing technology have brought concerns about the security of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin to the forefront.
StarkWare has announced that it has completed the first transaction designed to provide protection against security threats arising from quantum computing on the Bitcoin mainnet using a method called Quantum Safe Bitcoin (QSB).
The QSB technology uses a hash-based cryptographic system resistant to quantum algorithms, instead of traditional elliptic curve cryptography.
This is significant because a sufficiently powerful quantum computer could potentially break current cryptographic systems and derive private keys from public keys, making previously published public keys vulnerable to quantum attacks.
However, QSB comes with a high computational cost compared to existing Bitcoin transactions, which may limit its use for daily transfers but provides an experimental method for protecting high-value assets against quantum threats.
