StarkWare Defends Against Quantum Attacks with First Bitcoin Transaction
StarkWare has successfully completed its first Bitcoin transaction designed to protect against quantum attacks. The technology, developed by Avihu Levy, uses a method called signature grinding that prevents public key-related information from being exposed during transactions in the mempool.
The approach involves generating millions of signature candidates and selecting one that doesn't expose sensitive information to potential quantum computer threats. However, this method is computationally demanding and can take hours to produce a single transaction.
The transaction was mined by Bitcoin miner MARA through its Slipstream service, marking the first time such a technique has been used on the Bitcoin network. StarkWare emphasizes that this technology is not a permanent solution and should be accompanied by a protocol-level upgrade to adopt quantum-resistant architecture.
